CIE's Regular Course is a main program of the CIE designed for foreigners who wish to improve their Korean communication skills in relation to business or employment.

Class time Monday to Friday, 09:00~13:00 (4hrs)
Level Level 1 to 6
(*Eligible to apply for AJOU University after completing Level 3)

Course Goal

Level Goal

  • Learn Hangul vowels, consonants and the fundamental system of pronunciation.
  • Understand the fundamental rules of sentence structure and functions.
  • Acquire basic conversational Korean, including greetings, ordering food, purchasing goods, using public transportation, etc.

  • Build upon the foundation of basic listening, speaking and writing ability.
  • Acquire basic words to deal with everyday matters and some specialized vocabulary.
  • Learn conventional expressions such as informal and indirect speech.

  • Can communicate freely in daily life and roughly understand newspaper articles and television contents.
  • Understand Korean culture and ways of thinking via studying Koreans' customs and culture.

Subjects Description
Vocabulary and Grammar Based on the vocabulary of each stage, You can expand and acquire related vocabulary such as synonyms, antonyms and derivative words, and develop your social language ability by learning proverbs, idioms, and four character idioms. You can use the vocabulary and grammar learned at each stage to complete sentences, express and convey their thoughts correctly, and can communicate on a daily basis, such as writing their own opinions.
Reading Students can read various types of texts, from short paragraphs that can be encountered in daily life, such as daily life texts and practical texts, to professional texts dealing with general social content, and understand the structure and content. Through reading Korean literature, students can also read and understand texts in liberal arts fields. In order to improve reading skills by level, it is operated as a separate reading education course.
Writing Through writing practice suitable for a variety of topics and writing styles, students improve their writing skills step-by-step, from practical text writing to the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) and academic reports, which require logical writing at universities.
In order to improve writing skills by level, we are operating a specialized writing curriculum with the writing materials CIE has developed.
Speaking
Listening
  • Speaking
    • Learn Korean pronunciation and phonological rules so that you can pronounce it accurately. By learning vocabulary and expressions suitable for each stage level, not only communication skills at a level that allows for daily life, but also through speaking exercises such as topic presentations and discussions, students can understand discourse in academic and professional fields such as politics, society, economy, and culture. Develop the ability to logically express one's opinion.
  • Listening
    • Through listening training, the basics of listening are laid by practicing to identify the correct phonetic values and phonological changes of Hangeul letters. By listening and practicing listening for each step of the topic, you can listen to complex discourses and understand the main content. Through listening training such as presentations and discussions, it is possible to understand data on related topics such as news and current affairs, and to expand the scope of speaking and writing one's opinions to enable integrated listening.

Academic regulations

Division Description
Level Test All new students will take the level test (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and be assigned to the level/class accordingly.

Factors such as test results, nationality, gender, etc. are taken into consideration when assigning the class

Attendance Attendance at least 80% of the total class time (160 hours out of 200 hours)

Considered absent from 25 minutes after class starts

Completion Criteria
  • Attendance rate over 80%
  • Average of overall grades of test scores (mid-term/final exams), attendance, assignments, etc.
    • Level 1-6: Average of overall scores 70 or higher / Considered to be a fail if there is a subject scored below 60
    •  *Those who have any of the subjects that don't meet the criteria have to repeat the course at the same level.
